Abstract | "Japan's educational system is one of the main contributing factors to the nation's economic success. The high interest in education stems not only from an admiration of intellectual accomplishment, but also from a very strong belief in the malleability of the human being. There is a strong belief that the persistence element of behaviour instilled in young Japanese children is responsible for much of their intellectual accomplishment and resulting economic success." The article describes in some detail the attitudinal factors underlying this success: the Japanese work ethic, motivations and skills that ate highly valued, group and family relationships. The "competitive dilemma" which the US economy and its workforce are faced in relation to Japan are discussed, too. (DIPF/ Text uebernommen/bi.) |
