Abstract	Initiatives in the area of intercultural education have been emerging everywhere in Denmark in recent years. Some of the projects supported by the Ministry of Education include pre-school projects for immigrant children and their mothers, and preliminary courses to further the education of foreign students. "Grassroots" organisations are maturing. The private "Centre of Intercultural Education" in Aarhus, for instance, has become an example and an inspiration for similar projects in municipalities throughout the country. Traditionally, public schools in Denmark develop from the bottom up, in a decentralised way. Hopefully, it is a good sign that the Folkeskole Bill's goals contain an intercultural dimension: The Folkeskole shall serve to familiarise pupils with Danish culture, contribute to their understanding of other people, and facilitate interaction between humans and culture.
