AbstractThe plan described was developed to evaluate the training and cost-effectiveness of the Automated Instructional Management System (AIMS), a computer-based training and resource development system being developed by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) for possible installation in its schools and training centers. The Functional Description of the proposed AIMS was examined to identify the hardware and software packages intended for development. Stufflebeam's CIPP Model (Context, Input, Process, Product) served as the theoretical framework for the evaluation. Evaluation questions were formulated to guide the examination of the AIMS hardware/software, training management, courseware, training effectiveness, cost, and implementation/organization factors. A Milestone Chart was prepared to indicate deadlines for the evaluation activities, and a description of the staff required to implement the evaluation plan was prepared. Draft data collection instruments were devised with the caveat that revisions would be required to tailor them to the specific software packages operational at each AIMS site. A reduced version of this plan has been prepared to evaluate the AIMS test site at the U.S. Army Field Artillery School, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Six references are listed, and copies of the data collection instruments are attached. (Author/LLS)
