Abstract | First in a series of five, the document presents a listing of 108 programs which were identified and studied by a cooperative adult education project. Programs from 34 States across the country are included. Arranged alphabetically by State, each listing contains the names and addresses for the cooperating State agency and business with contact persons provided for each. A statement of purpose for each project is also included. The cooperative adult education project focused upon the area of industry/education cooperation. Parameters which defined programs for inclusion in the study included: (1) cooperation between a private business, industry, or group of industries and a State affiliated educational agency; (2) formal or informal arrangement with both organizations contributing at least one of the following--direct funding, participant or teacher release time, intensive planning, facilities, and equipment or materials; (3) participants must be adults who have less than a high school education and are not enrolled in a full or part-time traditional diploma-seeking program; and (4) program focus must be on job skills training, basic education, computational skills, writing, speaking, or English as a second language. Many of the entries are inplant programs, offered for employees only, and intended to provide specific job training. Appended is a cross-reference index listing programs by content type. (KH) |
