Abstract | When students first enter high school, the change can be overwhelming on many levels. All at once, or very nearly, they're dealing with an onslaught of new educational concerns, weighty academic decisions, different extracurricular options, unfamiliar teachers, and potentially bewildering social atmospheres. Meanwhile, former middle school instrumentalists and singers may also be struggling to decide whether to continue their musical activities or leave some (or all) of them by the wayside. This article discusses what teachers can do to keep middle school students in music as they advance to high school. (ERIC). |
