Abstract | This article is about a street-wise boy who is unaware that his younger brother has been using clever manipulation to get him into trouble. Nicholas is a 12-year-old boy whose father was recently given a life sentence for murder. Nicholas is in a boxing league and uses his fighting skills on the streets. Angel is Nicholas' nine-year-old brother who brags that he is in a gang. He enjoys fights and also likes to fuel conflict among other students. There had been an incident in school and Nicholas was sent to the school behavior support room first thing in the morning. It was reported that he was stalking another student, Antonio, and proceeded to punch and kick him until staff intervened. During the Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI), the interviewer was able to unravel how Angel was fabricating stories to get his older brother into fights. The interviewer used concrete analogies of the match and firecracker to illustrate this manipulative process. In their one-on-one meeting time, the interviewer was able to use the LSCI process to help Nicholas see how he was being set up and how to develop better self-control strategies for any future problems.
