Abstract	Staying active during the summer is of vital importance to all children. For children with disabilities, it becomes even more important to participate in a summer program so that there is no loss of function when returning to school in the fall. The core muscles are the stomach, back, and pelvic muscles, which support posture. Research shows that working on core strength and reinforcing the core exercises with physical activity is a good combination for maintaining or improving function. Often children want a break from therapy during the summer months, just like they want a break from their school work. But everybody knows that it is important to keep up over the summer months so that kids are ready to return to school in the fall. A summer program of strengthening and physical activity can be just as fun as a summer reading program at the local library. This article discusses how to engage one's child in a summer of fun that helps them maintain their physical function. (ERIC).
