Abstract | The Internet's interactive nature and relatively wide use are resulting in new opportunities for educators to find support, dialogue, development, and even mentoring whether or not it is readily available in one's school. Discussion forums are becoming communities of support in themselves, sometimes facilitating relationship building among hundreds of teachers from around the world. Participants not only share resources and ideas, but also challenge each other and work together toward the examination and elimination of personal prejudices. Once again, this illustrates that although the Internet can be a powerful tool even when viewed and experienced simply as a compendium of electronically presented print resources, its most important educational and multicultural contributions are those that connect people with people. In that single potentiality, it transcends the capabilities of many other existing educational media making it one of the most potentially contributive, multicultural complements to effective, transformative, multicultural education. With these pedagogical understandings in place, one can begin to think more practically about the ways in which the Internet can support multicultural curriculum transformation. (ERIC). |
