AbstractWriters know writing. They have acquired knowledge that enables them to successfully practice the art and craft of writing. The authors believe that writers can provide guidance that will help teachers and students learn writer's craft. In a unique format, the authors reference more than 30 well-known writers to raise issues about composition and teaching writing. They have combed writers' essays, books, interviews, and articles to locate nuggets of advice professional writers have offered over the years. In a two voice poem, they have sorted writers' ideas into seven categories: (1) riffing; (2) self-discovery; (3) artful; (4) drafting; (5) discouraging; (6) revising; and (7) personal. They believe these ideas can inspire and inform teachers and students about writing. This article presents the authors' conversation with writers on writing. (ERIC).
