AbstractThe persistence of problems indicates that the moral qualities of many people, in particular young people, constitute the stumbling block. What are the life values of today's youth--the desire to do something useful for the country, or to leave and go where the pay is higher? To have a family and raise children or to spend every hour seeking amusement in pursuit of a glamorous life? To become a professional in some craft and be proud of it, or to look for ways to make easy money, very often through unlawful means? Why is there an overabundance of people who do not want to become mechanics but, instead, lawyers and bureaucrats, although the official pay of a worker is a great deal higher? It is no secret that today people are being treated by young doctors who have purchased their diplomas. They prescribe fake medicine and operations that people do not need because they want to make a lot of money. People hire college graduates who have diplomas from prestigious higher educational institutions in the capital cities, only to find out that they got their education in some far-off little town where no one ever saw a candidate of science. For some reason, the Ministry of Education and Science has decided that diplomas held by the graduates of prestigious institutions of higher learning and their branches in little towns that no one has ever heard of should be rated the same. What people are getting as a result is the kind of "specialist" who does not even know how to fill out a job application properly. To solve all of these problems it is necessary to answer who or what is supposed to instill in young people the moral qualities necessary for life in society. And where and how is this to take place? This article accuses the media in Russia of modeling unpatriotic and immoral behaviors that some see as a danger to Russian society, and to young people in particular.
