Abstract | This article discusses a new set of inquiries based on the C3 Framework that provides questions, tasks, and sources to launch classroom examinations of the Korean War and its many aftershocks. Compelling and supporting questions, formative and summative performance tasks, and disciplinary sources provide teachers and their students with the elements through which they can explore and examine any worthwhile social studies topic. The elementary, middle, and high school inquiries illustrate how the past and present live together in the ways that people live their everyday lives, in the ways that social, political, and economic institutions operate, and in the diplomatic efforts in which countries engage as they try to resolve pressing issues. The inquiries into the Korean War and its legacy satisfy two objectives. One is to elevate the curricular potential of Korea and the Korean War for students in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. The second is to illustrate the power of inquiry as a pedagogical approach, one in which teachers and their students can stretch their intellectual boundaries. (ERIC). |
