Abstract | Research on college outcomes is often disaggregated by ethnicity or race of students. Common classifications of race and ethnicity include Asian, Black, Hispanic, White, and other (Shapiro et al., 2017). One group absent from this list is Multiracial (a person having parents of two or more races) students. While Multiracial students are mentioned in published works, they are not usually the focus of scholarly research on higher education outcomes. When they are noted, it is most typically in a secondary sense meaning that Multiracial students are mentioned but were not the population of primary interest or of primary investigation. This study's focus was on outcomes associated with Multiracial students in higher education. More specifically, it investigated completion (receipt of degree) for Multiracial students at Florida institutions of higher education. Using data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics via the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, this study examined the completion rates of Multiracial students over time and across institution types (public, private, minority serving, non-minority serving) in Florida over several years (2015-2020).
