Abstract | Through teaching, training, research and service to the community, Canada's universities and colleges are essential to creating a more democratic and just society, driving the economy, and preparing for the future. Canadians need a strong commitment from their federal government to protect and preserve the public post-secondary education system. This report provides six recommendations for the federal government: (1) Exclude public post-secondary institutions from the "Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act" (CCAA); (2) Create a national post-secondary education transfer; (3) Reinvest in basic science and expand equity in research; (4) Improve affordability for students; (5) Reform copyright laws; and (6) Create a federal post-secondary education secretariat.
