AbstractThis study explores the relationship between School Culture and the administrative leadership styles of Principals and Assistant Principals from the perspective of the classroom teacher. The grade levels of the teacher sample ranged from pre-kindergarten to high school while accounting for age, gender, tenure/experience, level of education of the teacher, and teacher grade level. All schools from the Mercedes Independent School District were invited to participate in the study. The participating schools consisted of; four elementary campuses, grade levels pre-kinder through fifth grade, two middle schools, grade levels of sixth grade through eighth grade, one high school, grade levels ninth grade through twelfth grade, one early college high school, grade levels ninth grade through twelfth grade, one alternative academy, grade levels tenth grade through twelfth grade, and one discipline alternative academy, all grade levels. A total of 350 teachers were invited to participate in the study by rating the culture of their respective school, as measured by the "School Culture Triage Survey" (SCTS), and the leadership styles of their respective administrator's, as measured by the "Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire 5X" ("MLQ-5X"). In today's education arena, Principals and Assistant Principals are pressured to primarily concentrate on curriculum, preparation for state assessment's, and test scores, causing a significant lack of concentration in the area of School Culture. Recent education reform efforts are now highlighting creative school culture initiatives in order to cultivate a rich atmosphere of learning and growth for both teachers and student achievement.
