AbstractThe purpose of the study was to examine student satisfaction with outreach, assessment of learning outcomes (ALO), and teaching and learning services at a public liberal arts college. Learners' importance and satisfaction scores were examined to understand the levels of importance learners placed on outreach, ALO, and teaching and learning services, and the degree to which learners were satisfied with those services. The study also investigated whether any relationship exists between students' importance and satisfaction scores, based on gender, race, and race and gender combined. This quantitative study used Noel-Levitz's ALI web-based survey. The adult student-sample population consisted of 1,499 randomly selected students from the college. The survey produced a response rate of 5%. The findings of the study suggest that most respondents are satisfied with outreach and teaching and learning services. However, males were less satisfied than women with the institution's outreach services. Males responded that the institution's outreach services did not allow them to pace their studies to fit their life and work schedules. While no significant differences were found between learners' satisfaction and importance scores for outreach and teaching and learning services, differences between learners' satisfaction and importance scores for ALO are significant at the 0.05 level (p = 000). Based on students' response to items 20 and 25 in the ALO scale, students agreed that there was not enough evaluation of their skills levels to guide their learning experiences, and they were not being evaluated based on the skills they need to enhance their lives and careers. Students with higher satisfaction scores for outreach often reported higher satisfaction scores for ALO and teaching and learning and high importance scores for outreach services. When gender and racial ethnicity were combined, no significant effect on students' overall importance and satisfaction scores emerged. The majority of participants received or planned to receive credit at this college from previous college credits earned (n = 72; 92.3%).
