Abstract | The Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) oversees statewide preschool special education programs with school districts, approved providers and parents. Special Education and related services are available for children from the age of three through age 21 who have been identified with a disability. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) provides the legal grounds for children with disabilities to receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). This guide answers the following questions for parents: (1) How will I know if my preschool age child needs special education and related services? (2) How will my child receive special education programs and related services? (3) What programs or services will my child receive? (4) How will my child be transported to and from special education programs and services? (5) How will I know that my child is making progress? (6) How will I be involved as a parent? and (7) Where do I get more information? (ERIC). |
