Abstract | College student persistence and graduation rates have been a major topic of investigation for higher education throughout the United States of America, both in 2 yr. and 4 yr. institution. Although, college education is highly valued in today's society, college persistence and graduation rates are still relatively low. Only 60% of students who began college at a 4-year institution in 2008 completed a bachelor's degree by 2014, and 30% of community college students who started school in 2005 (National Center for Education Statistics, 2016). Davidson et al. (2009) in his investigation stated that a substantial proportion of students are entering college and failing to graduate. Although a lot of research has been done on attrition, many students are still dropping out of college. Researchers have agreed that institutions must identify and understand what factors make students persist in colleges and universities. The results of this study indicated that leadership role was the highest predictor of persistence. As such, student personality may not be the main factor for addressing the problem of persistence.
