Abstract | Title I programs focus on improving the academic achievement of the disadvantaged. This document is the sixth in a series designed to provide: (1) consistent, reliable indicators to allow analysis of trends for each state over time; (2) high data quality for comparability from state to state; and (3) accessible indicator formats. The state profiles contain key measures of the quality of K?12 public education in each state, focusing on the status of each indicator as of the 2000?01 school year; many indicators also include data for a baseline year to provide analysis of trends over time. The indicators are based on data collected before the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was enacted;the state indicators and data reflect Title I requirements under the 1994 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) legislation. Indicators in each state profile are organized into six categories: (1) School and Teacher Demographics; (2) Student Demographics; (3) Statewide Accountability Information; (4) Title I Schools; (5) National Assessment of Educational Progress; and (6) Student Achievement. The report also tracks the progress of state Title I programs and the development and use of state standards in state accountability. Indicators are reported for each state and the entire United States. Appended are: (1) Further State Proficiency Level Definitions; (2) Sources of Funding, 1999-2000; and (3) National Assessment for Educational Progress--Definitions and Further Information. (ERIC). |
