AbstractImproving the lives of children and tackling the difficult challenges facing many families in society today require talented professionals in the field. This guide provides organized data about the multitude of training opportunities in child and family policy and research. Covering public, non-profit, and private settings, it offers current information on internships, fellowships, graduate training programs, and professional career placements in the child and family policy field around the United States. The guide is designed to assist individuals at all levels--new college graduates, graduate students, or more senior professionals. Section 1 of the guide covers child and family policy training within government settings at the federal, state, and local levels. Section 2 profiles formal and informal training programs other than those in degree-granting academic departments or not directly run by a government body. These settings include research institutes and centers; research and professional associations; advocacy, policy monitoring, and information dissemination groups; and foundations. The third section covers training for careers in child and family policy available in degree-granting academic departments. Three major kinds of settings included are public policy schools; social work schools; and applied developmental science programs. The final section offers additional resources, including guidebooks and directories; sources of job, internship, and position listings; and information sources and readings. (TJQ)
