AbstractThese conference papers examine the impact of the school reform movement in the United States on the recruitment and retention of minority teachers. The conference papers provide an insight into how school reform has been implemented around the country and suggest ways to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the reform movement for greater minority participation. They also show advancement in ways the problem is now being approached; for example, programs are more coordinated; there is more national awareness of the problem; and greater participation exists between cultural, ethnic, and racial minorities and the majority groups. The document is organized into six chapters: (1) Keynote Address; (2) A Response to the Shortage of Minority Teachers; (3) School Reform; (4) University Based Programs; (5) Perspectives on Recruitment and Retention; and (6) Future Directions. Thirty-six papers and a list of conference participants are included. (LL)
