Abstract | Presented are the proceedings of the First Historic Helen Keller World Conference on Services to Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, held in New York City in September, 1977 on the theme "The Deaf-Blind Person in the Community." Ohlson), "The Deaf-Blind Maturing Youth and Active Adulthood--Needs and Services" (L. Bettica), "The Deaf-Blind Person in Old Age--Needs and Services" (I. Lindgren), "Communication Through Manuals, Codes, Retrained Speech, and Technical Devices" (K. Baaske), "Braille Resources for the Deaf-Blind Person--What They Are and What They Could Become" (F. Cylke), "Life Skills-Basic Self-Care for the Deaf-Blind" (R. Smithdas), "Secondary, Higher and Correspondence Education for the Intellectually Able" (R.
