| Abstract | This publication presents consumer information designed to encourage and facilitate active citizen involvement in Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proceedings. Nine chapters are included, covering (1) the FTC and its impact on consumers (discusses the authority of FTC, the Bureau of Competition, the Bureau of Consumer Protection, and lists FTC regional offices); (2) categories of FTC proceedings; (3) opportunities for public participation in FTC proceedings; (4) currently active proceedings in the Bureau of Consumer Protection; (5) how groups have participated in FTC rulemaking; (6) compensation for costs of participating in FTC rulemaking; (7) major consumer protection statutes administered by the FTC; (8) information and materials available from the FTC; and (9) other methods of obtaining FTC records and information. A fifteen-page appendix includes an FTC organization chart, active FTC proceedings, how to apply for reimbursement of FTC rulemaking participation, and a list of groups which have received compensation awards for participating in FTC rulemaking proceedings.
