| Abstract | This document is divided into three parts. Part I, "Concepts and the Teaching-learning Process," explores ways that would be effective in developing professional competence of extension agents and other adult educators working in the field and those preparing for it. Part II, "Concepts in Educational Psychology," synthesizes the results of an analysis of the body of current psychological literature. Part III, "Concepts in Adult Education," attempts to: (1) identify concepts in adult education that are considered relevant to the role of extension educators, and (2) provide a framework for either selecting concepts to use in teaching or developing an understanding of concepts. Three major sources were used in the identification of concepts: literature of the field, specialists in adult education, and experiences of the authors. The identified concepts were then subjected to a screening process designed to limit their number. For example, the general concept "adult learner" was considered to include the more specific concept of "developmental tasks." The relevance of general concepts to the role of extension personnel was determined by screening them through a role model. (CK) |
