Abstract | The past 100 years of "English Journal" have positioned students and teachers in a variety of ways. As the authors embarked on exploring issues in the constructions of students in "EJ", they found that some concerns that teachers raised about English and English education resonated in their own classrooms and experiences as students and teachers. For "EJ"'s centennial issue, the authors looked across the past four decades to highlight some of the significant issues they saw as central in teachers' work and thinking, and they describe the trends and issues that emerged as they relate to the construction of students. The authors reflect on this journal's focus on students, highlighting instructional approaches to popular culture, identity, language, and more. (ERIC). |
