Abstract | This paper was written as a response to a perceived shift in attitude towards the concept of the future and the heightened presence of future themes within museum and gallery education. The four case studies discussed in this paper are institutions based in the south of Sweden that all participated in a local art biennial in October 2019 entitled "Bästa Biennalen." Applying information collected through personal observations, interviews and research, this paper deals with the way in which the four institutions interacted with the future as a concept to be explored creatively by children and young people. It aims to unpick the gravity of presenting, discussing and responding to the future within the frameworks of art and institutional learning at this seemingly pivotal point in time and offers space for personal reflections upon notions of perspective and privilege.
