AbstractThe present quantitative study examined racial climate, racial stigmatization and academic motivation among racially diverse women from a predominantly White university. The authors used a comparative lens to highlight how Black women's experiences compared to Women of Color and White women, and a within-group design to contextualize Black women's experiences as a unique group. The authors also explored how Black women's racialized experiences and motivation beliefs varied across STEM and Non-STEM majors. Overall, Black women experienced a more hostile racial climate and less academic satisfaction than women from other racial/ethnic groups. Black women reported similar levels of academic competence, suggesting their determination to excel despite experiencing race-related challenges in their institutional context. Finally, racial stigmatization was negatively associated with academic motivation. (As Provided).
