Abstract | Parents of newborns and infants are especially open to learning, and many new parents are actively seeking information. What do professionals teach them? How do they teach them? "Pathways" is an educator's guide to educating and supporting new parents. "Pathways" guides professionals in developing an approach to parent education that reflects respect for the tremendous transition parents go through when a new baby joins the family. It provides professionals with up-to-date information to share with parents based on recommendations endorsed by the national organizations representing best practices. In addition, "Pathways" uses innovative teaching strategies, such as the "Pathways" Teaching Photographs and a Teaching Teddy, that educators can incorporate into their practice. This guide will be useful to professionals (from a variety of disciplines) who find themselves working with parents of newborns and very young infants.
