AbstractMany professions, including the field of Sign Language Interpreting, benefit from, and indeed require practitioners to continue to enhance their skills and knowledge throughout their professional lives. Workshops are one way of accomplishing this goal. If one lives in a metropolitan area, workshops are generally plentiful. However, for professionals living in sparsely populated regions, opportunities for continuing education are often inconvenient or unavailable. In Minnesota, workshops called "ChalkTalks" were developed in 2003 to address this issue. This manual specifically addresses the needs of interpreters, but the information contained can easily be adapted to fit the needs of many other professionals. The purpose of this manual is to guide you in developing your own distance learning opportunities. This will be a step by step guide to setting up a workshop to include interpreters living in remote areas of your state. Forms as well as links to websites are included for your use. Three appendices are included: (1) Workshop Web Page; (2) Accessibility through Captioning; and (3) Workshop Box. (Contains 2 footnotes.) (ERIC).
