Abstract | This document and accompanying disk contain all of the articles from an "Education Week" special report examining the complex phenomenon commonly known as the "information highway" and how it affects the nation's schools. The articles, all by Peter West, include: (1) "Logged On for Learning," an overview of the report; (2) "Wired for the Future," about classroom connectivity; (3) "Paving the Way for the Highway," discussing the Federal Communication Commission's aim to get every classroom in the United States online; (4) "States Map Out Their Digital Futures," about a meeting of state networking representatives to discuss the National Information Infrastructure; (5) "Cybersources," a brief list of recommended informational reports; (6) "A Soft Sell," about the competition among software developers to create highly marketable educational applications; (7) "Cyberspeak," important terms and definitions for the information age; (8) "Reach Out and Touch," about the user-friendliness of touch-screens; (9) "The Search is On: Internet Research Made Simple," about an Internet searching tool called the Internet Library Information Assembly Database (ILIAD); and (10) "A Competitive Marketplace," which profiles some leading telecommunications firms.
