AbstractMany colleges and universities are revising course offerings and increasing graduate requirements to provide more highly integrated programs for their students. The efforts of seven institutions to develop such a core curriculum are described including those of: Saint Joseph's College (Rensselaer, Indiana); Los Medanos College (Pittsburgh, California); University of Wisconsin (Green Bay); Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia); City Colleges of Chicago (Illinois); Boston University College of Liberal Arts (Massachusetts); and Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, Washington). The curriculum revisions discussed vary and include the addition of single courses, four-year sequences, strict requirements, optional programs, open admission policies, community college programs, and a large university program. The address, telephone number, and name of a contact person at each school is given and 20 schools offering core curricula and/or integrated studies programs are noted. An annotated bibliography of core curriculum literature is provided. Basic questions and practical problems in developing a core curriculum are discussed in an article by Donald T. Hartman.
