AbstractThis collection of 5 bilingual papers on day care programs in foreign countries (China, the Soviet Union, and 3 Scandinavian countries) is part of a series of papers on various aspects of day care published by the Canadian Department of Health and Welfare. Each paper is presented in both English and French. Paper I considers day care services in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, describing models of service and methods of delivery; ages of children served; types and orientation of programs; staff/child ratios; staff qualifications and training; financing; and other related aspects of available day care services. Paper II deals briefly with the following different approaches to day care in Copenhagen: infant and after-school day care, integrated age grouping, country day care (care in rural facilities to which city children are bused), family day care, emergency care homes, and care of sick children. Paper III describes the philosophical and educational basis of early childhood programs in China and briefly mentions several types of arrangements used for day care and early childhood education. Paper IV lists impressions of a visit to various preschool centers in the Soviet Union, focusing especially on the theoretical basis of Soviet education. Paper V briefly describes attitudes towards children in China. (CM)
