Abstract | Educacion Fundamental Integral (EFI) is an educational process which aims to help Colombia's rural population to improve their living conditions. EFI adapts to the concrete circumstances of the person in his own environment. Objectives of EFI are to make the rural people: responsible for the work necessary for their own development; work together; completely utilize the resources available to them; improve the world in which they live. The idea behind EFI gave rise to the Accion Cultural Popular (ACPO) Institute. ACPO is a system which provides the people a cultural service. Composed of complex elements which are mutually strengthened, ACPO aims to accomplish that the people become subjects of their own development. This monograph describes the creation, growth, and structure of ACPO and the application of EFI through the ACPO. Topics covered are EFI in the context of rural Colombia; ACPO as a communications system; ACPO's radio schools; EFI's course content, materials development, and facilities; radio broadcasting; the evolution of EFI's concept; changes in thinking as a result of EFI; visualization of some parameters of EFI; ACPO's criteria for the planning of EFI processes; the structure of a practical model of EFI; the operationalization of the EFI concept; and EFI before the different perspectives of development--economic, social, and human development.
