Abstract | One of a series of eleven curriculum manuals which cover the four transportation topics of public transportation, transportation and the environment, transportation safety, and bicycles for elementary, secondary, and adult levels, this manual covers the public transportation topic for grades 6-9. It contains forty-two learning activities grouped into seven mini-units. Each mini-unit consists of a lesson plan component and an individual learning activities component. The first mini-unit provides a survey of issues related to public transportation; the rest are as follows: developing skills to identify and use public transportation, learning to make choices among different transportation modes, learning to respond to public transportation emergencies, learning how to promote use of public transportation, learning to seek redress of grievances over public transportation service, and researching public transportation issues. Supplementary activities are included which offer additional learning activities for independent use and/or a quiz for activity or mini-unit evaluation. Also included are references for further study resources, and masters for reproduction of role profiles, game boards, maps, and other distributable materials. (A curriculum guide, CE 014 028, is also available for use with the manuals.) |
