| Abstract | The effects of industrialization on the economic and social profile of a rural community are described in this paper. Some of the major changes when industry moves into a community are in the land use and support systems such as an increase in the demand for water, energy, and waste disposal. Other changes are in the labor force, retail sales and services, housing development, and demand for schools and other public services. The major conclusion is that much of the effort spent by a single small community in attracting new industry will benefit an area far beyond its own environs. (PS) |
