| Abstract | The current way of British policy of higher education towards the knowledge society has conformed British university to new principles and paradigmas. Opposite to selective and academic traditional features of this institution, this new order has shaped university in lines of democratization, excellence and institutional diversification. The development of university education according to these paradigmas allows the consideration of British university as a up-to- date institutional model in face of the concept, values and the research-based tradition of German Humboldtian university, which is reticent to the changes and developments imposed by the neo- conservative charge of the 90s. Similarly, the development of British university education in accordance with the named parameters reveals the new role both inclusive and of balance characteristic of the university of the XXIst century in face of liberal traditions such as that of the French university, or in face of scarce curricular diversification traditions, as has been the case of Spanish university till recent years. [The article describes and analyses the traditional characteristics of the British university and the transformations and reforms which had resulted in the "new parameters".
