| Abstract | Current education leaders are not better equipped than the organizations they lead to meet the challenges posed by standards-based reform. So relying on leaders to solve the problem of systemic reform in schools is ... asking people to do something they don't know to do and have no occasion to learn in the course of their careers.... Here, then, is the seeming conundrum: Schools are being asked by elected officials ... to do things they are largely unequipped to do. School leaders are being asked to assume responsibilities they are largely unequipped to assume, and the risks and consequences of failure are high for everyone, but especially for children. The paper attempts to chart a way out of this conundrum through an understanding of large scale instructional improvement. (DIPF/Orig.). |
