Abstract | Recent studies have examined schemes of adult access to higher education in several European countries. These schemes are particularly designed for adults who are without standard university entrance qualifications. Going beyond the analysis of their function and structure within the education system, the question has emerged of how significant these schemes are in quantitative terms, i. e. of how to assess the dimension of access via these schemes.... In the following investigation of adult access schemes, an attempt is made to develop and apply statistical indicators which lend themselves to heuristic as well as practical purposes. This approach may also provide a spin-off for the analysis of broader issues of adult access to higher education. Further implications for the discussion on statistical indicators in education will be taken up in the concluding section of this paper. (DIPF/ Orig. text). |
