AbstractThe Idaho Consortium for Safe Schools Healthy Students consists of three school districts in rural North Central Idaho and the Nez Perce Tribe's Students for Success Program. Universal prevention programs implemented in the elementary schools include Second Step and the middle schools implemented the Life Skills program. Each of the three districts serves a multicultural population, including Native American and Caucasian youth. Outcomes documented through school-wide surveys during the second year of implementation include reduced fighting at school for all grade levels and decreased absenteeism. Additional outcomes include a decrease in the percentage of youth who report destruction of others' property at all elementary schools and two out of the three district middle and high schools. The discussion focuses on the challenges of implementing ethnic-specific programming in a multicultural setting, and the need for further investigation into potential outcomes related to indicated prevention programming provided through Idaho Consortium schools.
