Abstract | Cannabis is a widely used illicit drug among adolescents, many of whom perceive little risk from cannabis. Cannabis use is associated with poor academic performance and increased school drop-outs. It is also associated with high-risk behaviors in adolescents like crime, violence, unprotected sexual encounters, and car accidents. Many of these adolescents have conduct, disorders, ADHD and learning disorders. There is some evidence to suggest that cannabis use leads to use of "harder" drugs. It is well documented that it produces acute cognitive effects that last for several hours after its ingestion. However, it is debatable whether it produces cognitive dysfunction beyond the period of acute intoxication. (As Provided). |
