Abstract | As federal mandates have increased in recent years, public schools have been hampered by the lack of resources to implement them. The forthcoming reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides an opportunity to move away from the shortcomings of its present version, the No Child Left Behind Act. This article presents reauthorization recommendations of NAESP's ESEA Task Force in several critical areas, including assessment, accountability, special education, English-language learners, school staffing, and services to supplement the academic program.
