Abstract | The present study explores the psychometric properties of Prime Time's Youth Engagement Survey (PT-YES) and the relationships among the survey items. Prime Time Palm Beach County, Inc. developed PT-YES, which contains 30 Likert scale questions designed to measure youth engagement during out-of-school time (OST) activities with community partners. In this dissertation, archival PT-YES data which 270 youths answered between 2017 and 2018 were used. PT-YES scales include learning, thinking, and problem solving; collaboration and choice; interest and enjoyment; instructor support; and challenge and novelty. The PT-YES showed that adjustments in the instruments scale and items were needed for higher quality psychometric properties. Reliability was sufficient for every scale except challenge and novelty. Some experts (n=12) suggested that, based on a content validity index (CVI), two of the 30 items on PT-YES need to be revised. A confirmatory factor analysis indicated that PT-YES scales were not a model fit, and an exploratory factor analysis provided a new model with seven scales. The archival PT-YES data showed that youth who almost always had a positive mood during OST activities had higher levels of engagement. Youth in the third grade showed the lowest engagement and had the lowest rating for instructor care and activity easiness. An analysis of variance revealed that there were differences among youth in grade level and engagement. Girls were more engaged than boys in three (learning, thinking, and problem solving; instructor support; and challenge and novelty) of the five subscales.
