| Abstract | This qualitative study explored the factors that affected King Unified School District's (KUSD's) successful attainment of their goal to instruct 100% of their administrators on their comprehensive safety plan, with a specific focus on active shooter violence prevention. Documents from the district were analyzed, and administrators from both the primary and secondary levels were interviewed to identify the knowledge, motivation, and organizational influences that assisted KUSD's administrators with the creation and implementation of a school-wide active shooter plan. The findings of this study revealed that the administrators possessed the appropriate knowledge to create and implement their own active shooter plans and provided recommendations in regard to the organizational resources needed to develop a systematic safety plan geared toward active shooter preparedness. The findings also highlighted the motivational influences administrators should take into consideration when developing their own active shooter plans.
