Abstract | This booklet presents a clear and succinct description of the educational needs of francophone students, families, and communities, and how this all fits into the constitutional requirements of Canada as directed by the 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and all subsequent amendments and Canadian Supreme Court rulings. It identifies the expected outcomes for francophone education and the conditions that must be met to ensure that these outcomes are achieved. It describes the educational project and the very core of francophone education and emphasizes the importance of the school-family-community partnership in achieving this project. The document is intended for all who are involved in the planning, implementation, and administration of francophone education. Section titles include the following: "Francophone Education in Alberta: Constitutional, Legislative, and Legal Foundations"; "Components of Francophone Education"; "The Francophone School: Its Educational Project"; "Francophone Education in Alberta: Provincial Framework." Five appendices and a bibliography are included. (Contains 108 references.) (KFT) |
