Abstract | The need and role of environmental education in technical and vocational education as well as guidelines and strategies for its incorporation into school curricula and teacher education programs are addressed in this report of a meeting organized by the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) in cooperation with the International Environmental Education Program (IEEP). Aspects of the meeting covered in this report include: (1) introductory information (stating the meeting's objectives); (2) proceedings (describing the sessions); (3) presentation of the IEEP (reviewing its historical development and activity involvements); (4) country reports (delineating the format used in the six country reports and providing a general summary); (5) working concepts (defining the environment, environmental, technical, and vocational education and specifying the need for and goals of environmental education); (6) role of technical and vocational education in environmental change (explaining reactive, proactive, and global roles); (7) need of environmental education in technical and vocational education (outlining strategies for curriculum development); (8) essential knowledge and methodologies for curriculum development (offering examples of conceptual and curricular frameworks); (9) guildelines for incorporation; and (10) recommended activities and documents to be developed for incorporation. Six appendices include the meeting agenda and time table, a list of participants, the opening statement by Dr. Abdul Ghafoor, and summaries of the county reports. (ML) |
