| Abstract | This document describes the curriculum at all levels of public education, from early childhood education through adult education, in Alaska's Northwest Arctic School District. Graduation requirements are stated, and alternative courses of study for meeting those requirements are listed. All course offerings available in the district, and the educational objectives of those courses, are noted. The levels of proficiency expected of students upon completion of the courses are itemized. The district's major educational intent is described by the Eskimo term, "inuguliq kamaksriigalikun," or, "growing up with respect." To reinforce this intent four themes are identified as they occur among the course objectives listed: cross-cultural skills, Inupiaq cultural heritage, leadership development, and consumer and career awareness. Course objectives in Inupiaq language arts are presented in both English and Kobuk Dialect. (Author/PGD) |
