Abstract	Information on establishing and running a free university is presented in this handbook. A free university is defined as an organization offering ungraded, unaccredited classes, activities and programs to the general public. Information on starting the free university includes: how to determine the needs of your community; deciding on a name and location; and how to organize the university. The role of the free university coordinator is discussed. Legal aspects (incorporation, tax-free status) and funding are also considered. Advice on course length, finding teachers, catalog information, and registration procedures is presented. The importance of good publicity is emphasized. It is suggested that followup and evaluation proceedings be implemented to maintain the quality of the university. (SF)
