Abstract | This interim report of the Yale Project describes the progress made on the nutrition and growth study of Tunisian children from September 1, 1972 through February 28, 1973. A major part of the report is devoted to the organizational and data collection problems of the longitudinal study, discussed under the following categories: biomedics, sociology, psychology, and nutrition. Some preliminary results are included at the end of the report, which indicate that a combination of medical care and nutrition does have notable influence on sensory motor abilities and mental test scores, even by the age of 12 months. In addition, when the raw scores of the longitudinal study were converted into standardized scores, the mental scores of Tunisian underprivileged children were slightly higher than the American norm, while their motor scores were slightly lower.
