AbstractGlobal politics simulations are most often employed within a course via face-to-face student interactions, but they can also be integrated into a broader course model and implemented effectively for online and distance learners. To that end, this article proposes the WRIS system as an organizational framework for online course design to include a simulation component. Inspired by Rofe's "IR Model," which highlights the steps of purpose, task, response, and outcome as best practices in online active learning, WRIS stands for watch, read, interact, and submit. The WRIS model provides a consistent organizational framework that helps to structure the interactions of distance learners, while still keeping them engaged and involved in applied class material. Additionally, the WRIS system complements the extant pedagogical literature by offering an alternative model for online simulation-based active learning within political science and international relations courses.
