AbstractThis document contains two sections: implementation of the performance-based Occupational Affective Behavior Analysis (OABA), and supporting research. Section 1 presents OABA, an analytic procedure designed to identify those affective behaviors important to success in an occupation, and gives directions on how to implement the procedure. The Coordinator Manual contains directions to be followed by the coordinator of the analysis. It is organized around the six steps the coordinator should follow in conducting the analysis: (1) identify the occupation to be analyzed; (2) identify experts and invite their cooperation; (3) administer OABA to obtain a brainstormed list from each expert; (4) develop a group composite list of affective behaviors from experts' original brainstormed lists; (5) obtain importance ratings for each behavior from experts; and (6) generate a list of important critical affective behaviors for the occupation. The manual contains samples of all forms needed to complete the process. The instrument is designed to be sent to occupational experts to obtain brainstormed lists of affective behaviors important to success. The manual and instrument are presented in a form that can be reproduced. Section 2 contains a report of the process used to develop OABA and the related research supporting its validity. It describes the validation of OABA by experts in the fields of cosmetology and machine shop. Appendixes to Section 1 include sample instruments and worksheets; appended to Section 2 are a 37-item bibliography, sample instruments, and results of the cosmetology and machinist pilot studies.
