Where can I search for literature on the German Education Portal?
We recommend the German Education Index (GEI) for the purpose of searching literature. The GEI is the largest German-language database of references in the field of pedagogy/education, supporting you in preparing the references further and obtaining texts. The GEI provides more functionalities than any of the other databases.
The metasearch enables you to conduct parallel queries of several databases, also including English-language resources from abroad. The GEI is also searched at the same time. The “literature“ metasearch function allows for activating and de-activating the GEI and other databases. In case of their activation, the search will be conducted across all databases.

How can I obtain matching texts once I have found the appropriate references?
The German Education Index is a database of references: Respective literature is described by keywords and in some cases, by abstracts, too. We do not provide the actual texts themselves. Generally speaking, a library nearby will be the most appropriate choice for obtaining the literature. Moreover, the full display of a record provides a link to information regarding the availability of the document.
Depending on the type of document, the following information is given:

No, we cannot sell any titles or accept orders. The German Education Index is a reference system by which you are given the information you need to obtain the relevant literature yourself (e.g. literature, library stock). The GEI is an “information broker” that supports users in finding the information (sources) they need for pursuing their scientific interests. The answer given to the question “How can I obtain a title” may also be of intrest.

I have found a journal article. What does :"57 (2011) 3" mean?
See the following example:
Giesinger, Johannes: „Bildung als öffentliches Gut und das Problem der Gerechtigkeit."
In: Zeitschrift für Pädagogik, 57 (2011) 3, S. 421-437
means:
57 – volume of the journal
2011 – publication year of the journal
3 – issue number of the journal.
In this case, the article was published in the third issue of the 57th volume, in 2011.

Can I send you my publication for registration with the German Education Portal?
If your publication is available in electronic form, you can avail yourself of our publication service, peDOCs. Please turn to the peDOCs registration form and follow the guided entry format. In case your publication is only available in printed form, please refrain from sending us a copy. You can, however, report a reference to your publication to the German Education Index.
Incidentally, publication in pedocs will automatically create a reference in the German Education Index.

Why are the publications I have reported not immediately searchable on the German Education Portal?
Initially, the entry is sent to a “basket” where it is saved for manual processing. Depending on the editors’ workload, it may take several days or even weeks until the entry is made accessible to the public.
